The Awakening of Astrology
Traditionally, people have gone to astrologers for their Astrology. Quite
often they ask why they are the way that they are. Sometimes they ask about the
future, what will be coming in the future. Almost always they want to know
something more about themselves. Astrology, after all is a pure, subjective science
of consciousness.
Today, however, for the very first time, millions of individuals have
embarked on a process of astrological 'self-discovery'. This is not only good for
those individuals this is already deeply changing the entire field of Astrology.
There is in fact, a rather spectacular kind of Awakening that one goes through the
more that one truly understands one's Astrology.
People have know about the Sun Sign for a few hundred years now. In fact,
in the 1960's and 70's, the Sun Signs Astrology was extremely popular. Now,
however, millions are exploring their complete astrological charts because we're so
much more than just a Sun Sign. In this section you will hear how to easily and
effortlessly discover your full astrological nature.

much more than just a Sun Sign. In this section you will hear how to easily and
effortlessly discover your full astrological nature.
A few short suggestions before we begin. Number one look at only your
Eastern or Vedic chart. Even if you're already familiar with your western chart, I
highly recommend that you now study your Jyotish chart. You'll see as we go that
it fits you much more deeply than your Western one.

Astrological Experience
Also, I'd highly recommend that when you read about your chart, say a
description of what the Sun in Gemini person is supposed to be like; after you read
the slightly general description that is there, then, look within and see how that
feels like you. For many years while doing people's chart I knew that the reading
was going well because everyone's heads were bobbing up and down in
enthusiasm. They then told me how much they related to their reading.
Later, however, when I would talk to them again, I'd often find that they
didn't remember or retain the information that we talked about. Later I discovered
a different exercise in doing people's charts. After I describe what a person's Sun
in Gemini is like and they say: "Oh, yes, that is me.." I then, stop and say:
"Now, express in your own words exactly how you experience this in your life."
People then put into their own words, a 'better' even more ideal, precise
description of exactly how they're living that part of their chart. This is of course
because they are living 'that'. Unfortunately, we generally don't get educated into
looking within and experiencing our own, personal astrological natures. But, in
this book and in the future I highly recommend that when you read about your
chart and then, relate to that description, then, WRITE down exactly how you do.
That then, will be your chart!
You do this for each aspect of your chart and you will suddenly truly get
yourself. Also, because you've put in your own words exactly how you experience
it, then, you'll not forget how you are your chart!
Astrological Resonance
Now, let's discuss everything we will be covering in this section on
the "Awakening that is Astrology." There is this quality of 'astrological
resonance' that goes on within you when you both hear or read about your chart.
Because you ARE already, literally living your chart, this is why you relate so
intimately to it.
So, when you hear about your chart, and especially read about it, do this one
thing. As you think about what you've heard or read, now look within and look for
those qualities of familiarity, 'ahas', 'mmmm, this fits me' or 'wow, eureka this is
really me!' Then, write down in as detailed a fashion as you can exactly why that
fits you. After doing this with each aspect of your chart you will literally know
your complete chart.
The Personality Questionnaire
Also, we've included a very nice, complete personality questionnaire which
will help you create a baseline before you start your astrological study. I find this
extremely valuable in all the courses that I've taught. This PQ gives me an
opportunity to first reflect on what they already know about themselves. This is
NOT a test of how well we know our chart so far.
Just answer these simple questions innocently. There are NO write answers
by the way.
This will however serve as a kind of template for yourself,
establishing what you already know about yourself. Later, when you begin
studying your chart you will find the astrological reasons for everything that you
put in your initial personality questionnaire.
When you find the astrological reason for everything that was in that, you
will then, truly know your complete astrological chart!
Positive Benefices & Negative Malefics
Do one more thing as you're reading about your chart and finding the truths
of your Astrology. Keep an eye out for which aspects of yourself are positive and
which one's are associated with some frustrations, difficulties or negativity. For
example someone might have that Sun in Gemini in their chart. When they read
about it how it describes a person "who enjoys doing many things at the same
time" the person may not only relate to it but they may say something like this.
"I really relate to that idea. In fact, I often find myself doing way too many
things at the same time. I take on too many things and then get spread too thin, and
don't get done what I should." In other words, not only did they write down in
their own words exactly how they experience this part of themselves, but they also
described it in slightly negative ways.
The person could have said: "Oh, yes, I really relate to that. In fact, at work
I'm known as that person who can juggle 2, 3 even 4 things at the same time
without getting scattered or taking on too much." This obvious difference is an
example also of how the person personally relates to this characteristic but in this
case they're experiencing the positive or Benefic side of this configuration.
As you discover each and every aspect of your Astrology, also become
aware of which configurations are associated with ease, joy and success and which
one's have some difficulties with them. Don't be surprised if many of your
configurations do have some negative connotations. When I first learned my chart,
literally 7 out of my 9 planetary configurations were especially disappointing and
frustrating. Later when I understood the rules and principles of Astrology better I
realized that only 2 of my planets were Benefic functioning and literally 7 out of
the 9 were malefic.
This however, is a very important insight about your chart as well. Because
everything in life depends on ONLY flowing in the positive 'ways' of each planet.
In fact, this connotation between the positive and negative functioning of each
planet and sign is at the very heart of Astrology, as it is in life, itself. Therefore,
keep an eye out for positive and negative expressions.
The 3 Pillars of the Astrological Chart
Next, start with the 3 main aspects of your chart, the Sun, Moon and Rising
Signs. Start first with the Sun Sign then read about your Moon sign. Also,
especially if you are pretty sure of your exact time of birth then read your Rising
Sign description next. These 3 aspects of our charts, describe more about us than
most of the other configurations.
In the future, instead of saying only "My Sun is in Gemini" when someone
asks you will be able to say: "Oh, I'm a Gemini, Leo, Virgo." Now, that'll get
their attention. I do that all the time now. I say: "I'm a Leo, Virgo, Libra." Then,
we have a nice conversation about how my Sun's in Leo, but my Moon in Virgo
and Libra Rising sign really explain more about my 'complete' personality than
just the Sun Sign.
The Complete Astrological Chart
After these 3 then study all the other configurations of your chart. Again,
read (first) just those configurations that fit your chart. I've found that people often
get themselves a little confused by studying all the other descriptions at the same
time. Because whatever Sign you have a planet in, that will feel like you.
Nothing I've ever done, however, has been more revealing about who I am,
then, this 9 planetary descriptions of my chart. First read about your Planets in
Signs. Then, if you have a book that describes Planets in Houses, then, read those
descriptions. But, the Planets in Houses depend on first being very sure of your
Rising Sign.
If there is any doubt as to your exact time of birth then, read about the Rising
Sign last. The good news however, even if you have no idea about the time that
you were born is there are only 12 choices on each day. So, if you know for sure
that you were born in the morning than only 2 or 3 Rising Signs are possible. But,
if you know you were born in the afternoon, then again, there are only a few Signs
in the afternoon. The evening hours also contain only several Rising Signs.
Though I'd also suggest if you're not 100% sure about your time, that you
get some professional astrologer to verify or rectify your time. This takes more
skill than you may have at this point and it'll be comporting for you really
narrowing in on exactly what your Rising Sign is. In fact, it sets the whole chart.
All the Houses then, depend on which Rising Sign you are.
The Rising Sign changes every two hours which is why it's so important that
our exact time of birth is so accurate. So, if your time of birth is at all uncertain,
than read about your Rising Sign last.
In the next chapter we'll first explore that Personality Questionnaire that we
talked about above and then we'll start going through exactly How to Experience
Your Own Chart!
